Week Three- The Meal Prep Challenge!

 Week Three Progress Picture!

I am happy with this weeks progress picture! You can actually start to see the results, from all the effort I have placed forth! This week, I really wanted to put emphasis on the amount of effort that one needs to place on your diet when you are making any change to your body. The diet is about 80-90% of the diet, depending on what you are going for. Right now, I have to say my meal plan is 90% of the work!

Like I mentioned perviously, I eat 6 meals a day- which is a large amount of food. But this has helped to speed up my metabolism, so I am processing my food energy a lot faster than I normally would! Also, my diet is very low on cards! In fact I am currently battling a low card day today! You are get vary tired, very easily!

My meal prep is spaced out over two days, I make enough food to last me those two days. That was I can have a small break from cooking in between days. On top of that, my food is a lot fresher than it would be if I made a large amount to last a week at a time.

Chicken is the main protein of my diet! I would have to say that I eat chicken twice daily, with a break in between with either ground turkey or fish (and I hate fish...). The chicken I try to season as much as I can! Though staying away from any seasoning with salt in it, has been huge challenge. I am allowed a small amount of sea salt, but I like to lightly season my food after re-heating it.

My favorite carb would have to be my sweat potato or yams. I believe that I have perfected the right way to cook these, to the point I wish I could always eat these! Here is my favorite way to cook these bad boys:

  • Preheat the over to 375 degrees
  • Chop your yams or sweet potatoes into cubes
  • Add Chopped potatoes/yams to a mixing bowl and add 1 TSP of olive oils and seasonings. Make sure to season to taste!
  • Cook for 25-30 minutes, then check and flip selection
  • Cook for additional 2-10 minutes
  • Take out and cool for 5-10 minutes, then serve!
These will keep for about 5 days, so you can make extras and keep them in your fridge of later!

I also decide to add a few of my favorite type of exercise! Many of these can be completed at home with your basic free weights or body weight! This week I chose the triceps as this is a huge problem area! In fact I don't think many know that this muscle group! You know when you wave your arm and you have that flabby little shake... well that is the area your triceps sit!

Tricep Dips

For the easy version of the tricep dips you just need one of your kitchen chairs. Hang your body over then end of the chair strait arms. Then you need to lower your body, staying as close to the chair as possible. The goal is to do as may reps as you can do until failure... so maybe 3 sets of 12 to start off!
Once the easy version of the dips becomes easy, its time to change it up a little! Extend your legs, so that they lay strait out in from of you. Once again, lower yourself as close as possible to the chair. Again, do as much as you can... when you get to the point to your triceps are shaking! You have to put in the work to see the results!

Difficult... well is difficult! I took it a step further and placed an 8LBS kettle bell on my lap! When you first begin the difficult round, I would suggest starting without the weight! Grab another kitchen chair to put your feet up on! Then slowly lower yourself down, making sure to keep your elbows points back, not to the side!   The better your form, the better the results will be.

Small Tidbit!

I am currently in the process of saving to buy the dress of my dreams! Though this whole adventure is quite expensive(I will be providing a breakdown!), I still want to at least get the outfits that I like and not just the bargains I have found.

I started a GoFundMe page, in hopes that I can take a little strain off with some help. This account is not just for the dress, but for the competition bikini I will have to get a well! Please swing by and show your support if you can: http://www.gofundme.com/c3vetg

I have faith in this assistance... after all vet is in the http and I work as a veterinary technician...

PS: Here is the dress I would like to get my hands on... we shall see!

Week Two- The Weekly Routine

Week 2 Picture!

So far this challenge has been... well challenging! I fell that my first post was a little on the short side and you all... few as you are... didn't get the whole picture of who I am. I started my journey to fitness almost two years ago, October 17, 2012 to be exact! I weighed in at 186LBS and wore a size 12 in pants. So, needless to say, like all overweight people, I made a choice a few days prior that I wanted to live a healthier lifestyle.

About 4-5 years prior to by start at Hardcore, I had a minor surgery on my left knee. In order to stop my knee cap from grinding off its tract, I ending up having to have my lateral tendon removed. This really slowed down my gym activities and I wish I could say it was the main factor that I ended up gaining so much weigh... but really there is no excuse.. just sheer lazyness!

I chose Hardcore Fitness LA because my brother in law would not stop talking about the amazing results he had started to see, in such a short period of time. At that time, I believed that I was only a little, on the heavy side. Once I started working out at a crossfit gym, I quickly figured out that I was wrong... on so many levels! I began to push myself, both at the gym and at home. I had to strive to no only change my workout habits, but my eating habits too! And if you did not figure out from the first point, I am a french fry hound!

After a Solid 21 months, I now weigh 147.8LBS and currently wear size 4 pants. It has been a huge change in my life, a truly wonderful change, as I an now healthy and active once  more! Though not as active as I would like to be! On October 17, 2013, I ended up going in for another knee survey, this time on my right knee! The same procedure was repeated, and this knee I experienced a large amount of success! So far it has healed wonderfully! Though I am still limited with high impact activities: running, jumping, etc!

So now with all that being said! Let me start breaking down the daily routine! Working towards a competitive bikini body is a large amount of dedication and work! I wake up at... 4:30am, yes 4:30am, and it is a battle to get up EVERY morning! The only break I get in this schedule is on Saturday, wen my gym workouts start at 8am instead of the 5:15am workout that I complete weekly! I always take my black lab, Ned, with me when I go to the gym that early. He gets to go back to sleep while I work out, then at 6:20am its his turn! We head up the street to the local dog park and engage in a riveting game of fetch! In fact my instagram account if full of dog park pictures!

Once the dog park romp is completed, I head home to a wonderful breakfast, which is oatmeal and egg whites... some fruit included. It's by far my favorite meal... I get to put Walden Farms maple syrup in the oatmeal... liquid candy with low sugar and sodium! This is the first meal of 6, 6 huge meals! Once the battle of the plates are completed it time to go to work. I then head to the office, during which I will consume my three additional meals 2-3 hours apart. Gotta speed up that metabolism!

Finally at the end of the workday, I head back to Hardcore Fitness Bootcamp, to do a session of cardio! I live in Southern California, and it gets hot... especially in a gym without an air conditioner! This week was not so bad! As the hottest it got was 88 degrees, so the swamp cooler was a huge help.

My favorite cardio workout it the stationary bikes, but for a challenging workout I use the StairMaster. This is guaranteed to make your booty work... though it's a little challenging after a leg day! Cardio completed, I head home to meal # 5! After this, depending on the day, I then start cooking my meals for the next two days. Lots of protein and veggies! This is the most challenging part of the day, cooking for the next few days! By 8:30pm I have my last meal and then head to bed, so I can do the same routine all over again the next morning.

Fingers crossed that next week goes smoothly! Hears hoping I make it through another climb of a week :)

The First Week

Week one Picture

The first week of the journey has been, as cliché as I can be, a rough one! I never imagined the amount of work that I would need to complete, to gain the level of fitness needed for a WBFF competition! I knew that the amount of physical activity would be daunting! But I had no idea the challenges I would face when it came to the DIET!

When I say diet, I do not mean the traditional dieting that everyone thinks about! Hey, I don't have that much weight to lose! But for this competition, its all about your physique. Meaning you muscle tone and over all put together appearance. No overly bulging muscles, no, they want the nice and toned look.

I'll give you a prime example! The amazingly gorgeous woman on the right is my trainer, Nadia Lopez, and let me tell you, she is amazing! Currently she is training for her own fitness competition that takes place in Las Vegas, the WBFF Worlds, and she is considered a top athlete in her sport.

Anyway! Back to the talk about the diet, because it is a point of fixation in my life at the moment! I have to consume 6 meals a day! The meals contain balanced carbs(like brown rice), protein, and veggies. Some fats are included, like nuts...

These meals are eaten every few hours, and I must say, it is more food than I am use to eating. In fact most mornings I have trouble finishing the first meal! sometimes these meals can feel a little on the bland side, but some low sodium/sugar condiments are expectable. Which are greatly helping to make the meal more enjoyable!

But, so far, from the first week, I have learned to appreciate the little things in life... like french fries...
